1,500 Bakers And Chefs Come Together To Create Guinness Record
Thrissur, the culture capital of Kerala, witnessed a unique event where 1,500 bakers and chefs from across the state came together to create a cake which measured more than 6,000 meters and weighed over 20 tonnes.
Spread with chocolate ganache, the four inches thick and wide vanilla cake was prepared in three rows along the Ramanilayam Road in Thrissur and took over four hours to prepare.
The event was organised by BAKE as part of Happy Days Thrissur Shopping Festival on January 15th. Chefs and bakers from over 500 FSSAI -certified bakeries representing every constituency of Kerala exhibited their skills in shaping the mammoth cake. BAKE, an organisation of over 20,000 bakery units, spread across Kerala, undertook the epic exercise.
The Guinness World Record effort in cake making undertaken by the Bakery Association Kerala (BAKE ) surpassed the existing record of 3,200-metre long cake set by Chinese Bakery Association in 2018.
Ingredients used:
• 3461 kg. Of cake flour
• 862 kg of sugar
• 20000 Eggs
• 4000 kg of margarine
• 360 kg. Of butter
• 4500 kg of icing sugar
• And 400 kg of coco powder
The event was being coordinated by BAKE State Secretary Kiran S Palakkal, President Vijesh Vishwanath and State General Secretary, Royal Naushad. The longestever cake displayed BAKE logo through consumable photos spread on it. In consonance with the Kerala government’s policy of keeping plastic at bay to protect the government, no plastic or thermocol was used in the cake-making programme.
“The spectacular event is yet another milestone for BAKE,” said P M Sankaran, who heads a national organisation of bakers. He has been instrumental in bringing the bakers under one umbrella, aimed at ushering in a variety of safety and hygienic standards in the baking segment in Kerala. BAKE has worked with the government in bringing about huge changes in the general hygiene and elimination of harmful additives such as artificial colours, preservatives and trans fats. This was achieved through scores of State-wide awareness campaigns and workshops that changed the mindset of bakers as well as customers towards safe food.
“We are happy with the combined efforts of the members of Bakery Association Kerala in creating this Guinness World Record which surpasses the previous held record of China literally by over a mile,” said Vijesh.
