Patanjali group of companies is looking to challenge foreign and local producers of baked goods. It plans to increase combined turnover nearly tenfold to 1 trillion rupees ($15.5 billion) in the next five years via expanded distribution and exports.
Patanjali’s revenue last year soared 110 per cent to 105.61 billion rupees. Baba Ramdev, the yoga guru who co-founded the company and serves as brand ambassador, cited the target of 1 trillion rupees during a visit to Ahmedabad.
The group already markets 500 brands, and its products include biscuits, honey, noodles, beauty products, herbal soaps, fruit juices, clarified butter, mustard oil.
The unlisted company sells herbal and ayurvedic products, and it has captured 50 per cent of the Indian honey market as well as 15 per cent of shampoo sales and 14 per cent for toothpaste. Patanjali also tops Nestle India which reported total income of 93.73 billion rupees.
