DY Patil Varsity marshals hospitality students into European expedition

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, DY Patil University, becomes the first college in India to be invited by the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu.

DY Patil University has arranged an international educational tour to France and Belgium for its hospitality students. Iftekhar Shaikh, professor of French language, led the tour programme. The group of 30 students were first taken to Paris, a global centre for art, gastronomy and culture. Besides such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower, the 12th-century Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, Louvre museum, which houses the famous painting of Mona Lisa and the Versailles Palace, the students explored the city’s lesser known places also.

The highlight of the visit was Le Cordon Bleu. For more than a century, Le Cordon Bleu has enabled aspiring culinary professionals to turn their ambitions into reality with a wide range of culinary arts, wine and hospitality programmes.

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, DY Patil University, became the first college in India to be invited by this prestigious institute where its Head Chef enlightened the students with a threehour practical cooking session. Students were given certificates of participation.

During hotel visits, they were exposed to understand how the kitchen operates during busy hours. They were also taken to a bakery where students could learn about the production of typical French breads such as the baguette and croissants. Following that, they experienced the vineyard life where they went for a tour of the winery followed by a wine tasting session.

The students also visited a cheese factory in Nomandy where they were they could familiarise themselves with the entire process from cheese preparation to packaging and sales. The Itinerary was followed by a visit to Concept chocolate factory in Brussels. The students are now back in India with proud memories of their first international industrial visit.
